Type a 1-2 paragraph proposal for your research paper. You may have a similar topic than someone else but the focus must be different. Be sure it is narrow enough to complete over the course of 5-6 weeks. This process will begin after your AP Exam on May 8th.
I would like to do my research project on the Zodiac Killer who held a reign of terror throughout the United States through the 60s and 70s, especially in California. I would like to specifically focus on what little is known about his upbringing in American society and how he was able to remain anonymous while simultaneously spreading fear like wildfire through the U.S. I will especially be focussing on the reporter who became almost sickly obsessed with the Zodiac Killer and I'm relying on the majority of my sources being his inumerous books on the killer's multitude of cases. The combination of mystery and abundance of information surround the Zodiac Killer leaves no doubt in my mind that h will be able to work on this paper for the entirety of the 5-6 weeks we will be focussing on it.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Hannah. I think there is a movie with Jake Gyllenhal (sp?) called Zodiac.
DeleteI would like to do my research paper on how the lifestyle of the twenties was a major cause to the Great Depression. I would like to narrow in on the stock market crash, and how the luxiourious lifestyle many people tried to live was a major contributor to the crash. I will start my paper with an introduction to the "revolution" that happened during the twenties, and tie that in to the attitude shift toward spending money, and how many spent their free time. I believe there is so much to learn about this time in U.S. history and I will be able to keep busy the entire time we are working on the research papers.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Katie.
DeleteI would like to write about the arms race of World War I, and the resulting technological advances at home and on the battlefield. I will focus on this transition period of battle strategy and weapons development, and what this meant for troops on the ground. I will mention how the development of tanks and war planes drastically changed the fighting style of WWI, setting it apart from any other war in history. World War I is a unique and one of the most interesting wars in U.S history due to the clash of the old and new world, and the staggering change of war environment as a result.
ReplyDeleteGood, you may have to focus on one aspect, like tanks. You'll figure that out in your research process though.
DeleteI would like to write about women's non - traditional roles in the Civil War. I will go over what the Civil War was about. Also, I will go over the more traditional roles women played in the Civil War. I would focus on how women became spies for each individual side. The Civil War was a defining moment in our history, and women spies played a crucial role in delivering information. There is a large amount of information and I believe it will be enough to keep me occupied for the entirety of the time we will be working on our research papers.
ReplyDeleteGood start. I think you'll have to focus it more on spying, perhaps, but that will develop as you research.
DeleteI would like to answer why the 1920s were considered the Golden Age of sports. I will discuss the sports that gained popularity in the United States, the significant players, and the role of spectators in the promotion of major sports. I will also touch on the influence of media and technology that allowed for the growth of sports. Sports have a major influence on our lives today, and the 1920s are when that really started to develop. There are plenty of resources I could use to research 1920s sports, including primary sources like newspaper articles. I would conclude my research paper comparing the 1920s sporting culture with our athletic culture today. Spectator sports are important as a way for people to unite, relax, or gain a profit.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Sarah.
DeleteBetween 1861 and 1865 the northern and southern states fought after the southern states seceded from the union. The different views of slavery in the north and south played a key role in the secession during the American Civil war. I would like to focus on the effect of slavery in the American Civil War for my research paper. More specifically the idea of slavery viewed differently in the North versus the south. The war began as a struggle to preserve the Union, not a struggle to free the slaves, but many in the North and South felt that the conflict would ultimately decide both issues. Many slaves escaped to the North in the early years of the war, and several Union generals established abolitionist policies in the land Southern land that they conquered. Congress passed laws permitting the seizure of slaves from the property of rebellious Southerners. The views between the north and south played a key role in the events of the civil war and would have many resources on both sides. I could use newspapers, books and speeches from the time frame to support the facts I want to present in the paper.
ReplyDeleteA very big topic. You'll have to narrow it in more. Perhaps focus on a particular state?
DeleteI would like to write my research paper on American women’s roles during World War II and the subsequent effect on American society. The impact these women made is still felt today, and was an important stepping stone for gender equality in the United States. Prior to World War II, women were seen as second class citizens to men. For example, they were only considered fit to hold positions such as seamstresses, mothers, and teachers; however during this time they proved they could hold any position a man held. I will mostly be focusing on the social and economic impact these women had long after World War II. I find this topic to be interesting as not only benefited women in the twentieth century, but also serves as a major building block for the feminist movement of today.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Sam. It's a bit ambitious but you can narrow it in as you research.
DeleteI plan to research the second wave of feminism that occurred during the 60s and 70s and the creation of a new wave of idealized feminism in modern day. I plan to focus on distinguishing between the definitions of equal civil rights between genders and the imbalance in ethical arguments created by modern feminism. I intend on referencing the 40s and 50s following World War II to illustrate the blurred lines of a woman’s role as a mother and jobholder and the implications that follow a balance between work and motherhood. While this topic is broad, I plan on focusing on the modern day aspect of feminism in correlation with events for the progression of women, which occurred in the mid 20th century, specifically highlighting how these events are still relevant today.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Stella.
DeleteAfter the United States entered World War II in 1941, the Japanese posed the most prominent threat to the mainland and the civilians of North America. As war with Nazi Germany and the Axis Powers ravaged much of Europe, the American Navy was concerned primarily with defending American waters against the advancing Japanese forces. I plan to focus on conflicts such as the Battle of Midway, the Battle of Coral Sea, and the American Doolittle Raid in order to further grasp their significance to the balance of power in the Pacific and to the war as a whole. Through the conflagration of the Pacific war, many strategies were also implemented by minds on both sides. I will also reference these commanders and delve into how their aforementioned strategies influenced the outcome of the greater conflict.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Dan. This work has nothing to do with the WW2 elective work or previous research, right? Just checking.
DeleteHi Dan
DeleteNo haha I enjoyed the WWII class so I was planning on researching an event in that time period anyway, but I haven't already done an assignment on these specific events.
DeleteI would like to do my research project on the Democratic Convention of 1968. I will explain the climate of the city of Chicago at the time, and the political mood of the country. As background to this climate, I will talk about the student protests and civil rights movements that caused the country to snap back against the protestors. The convention was a chaotic event, and I plan to lay out the full story. I also intend to analyze the country's response to the violence at the convention and the what effect it had on the Democratic Party for the future.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Henry.
DeleteI plan to write my research paper about the World War II infantry Easy Company of the U.S. Army. I would write about the members of the company, specifically significant figures like Major Winters, as well as the reason Easy Company stands out amongst the other troops (i.e. why the company has been the focus of TV shows and books as opposed to other companies). I would outline the training the soldiers went through at Camp Toccoa and the transition to the battlefield, adding in some of the important events/battles, like the winter in Bastogne. There are many memoirs, books, and even a TV show that focus on the lives of Easy Company so I have plenty of materials to conduct my research and write my paper. I also own a few books about Easy Company so finding these materials won't be difficult.
ReplyDeleteGood, Alex. I'm guessing you've read or seen Band of Brothers? That would be a place to start.
DeleteI am going to write my paper on the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War. I want to focus on the impact of the different advancements on the Cold War and the relations and rivalry between the nations. I want to talk about how the launching of Sputnik caused a sense of panic at the advancements of the Soviets that launched a race ending with the victory of America with Apollo 11. I will discuss how the space race created scientific advancements that benefited the whole country and how it inspired legislation to be passed to further the STEM education in the United States. I think this is a very cool topic that interests me a lot and I think I will be able to find enough information to write a good paper.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Mary.
DeleteI would like to write my research paper about the formation of the CDC and the factors that led to its creation as a government agency. I would like to focus and discuss on the events that prompted the government to feel the need to create the CDC and on what the CDC's role is. I am very interested in biology and diseases, so I think I will be very motivated to research this topic as it relates to both US history and biology.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Bardia.
DeleteI would like to write my research paper on the introduction of horses to Native American life. When the Native Americans obtained horses from Europeans, their lives were drastically altered in many ways. I will talk about life before horses, why there originally were not horses in America, and then how they were obtained. The introduction of horses affected many areas of Native American life, including hunting, trade, social status, entertainment, and interactions between tribes. Also, different areas of America were affected in different ways. Lastly, I will talk about the legacy that the Native Americans’ horses have today.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Risa.
DeleteI would like to research the three major robber barons that emerged in the late 1800's: J.P. Morgan, Andrew Carnegie, and John D. Rockefeller. I plan to focus on the connections and similarities between these three individuals, and the major differences. I will also provide information about their childhoods, and about how they became to be the some of most successful and wealthy people in the United States. Lastly, I will conclude my paper with an analysis on how these individuals impacted society around them and how they changed the world that we live in today.
ReplyDeleteGreat topic, Caroline.
DeleteI would like to research John Wilkes Booth and the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. This topic has never been fully covered in past history but briefly mentioned as a conspiracy against most of the political figures in 1865, including General Grant. I remember doing a brief paper on his assassination in middle school, but that was only from around 2-3 pages. A full 12-14-page paper allows me to fully expand the significant details and the plans that were supposed to be followed through. I find this topic fascinating and I wish to explore the creation of the conspiracy and the aftermath of Lincoln’s assassination.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Joe. There is a good book called "Manhunt" if you want to start there. You will get a sense of the sources that the author used.
DeleteI would like to do my research paper on the Manhattan Project. I will start off by discussing the arms race taking place during World War II. I will focus on the fight for nuclear power following Germany’s advancements that led to the development of the project. With Germany’s uranium bomb, it proved vital for the United States to move ahead in the race. I will mention the process of making the bomb a reality to launch against the axis powers, including the cost, employment, and secrecy. I will conclude the paper with the significance of the atomic bomb and why it was a necessity despite the devastation it caused.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Jocelyn.
DeleteFor my research paper I would like to research the Revolutionary War. I will start out with a brief introduction explaining tensions leading up to the war and how these impacted some of the battles. Then I will spend most of my research on going in-depth about the major battles of the Revolutionary War and how these battles effected both the British and the Americans. I will also go in-depth about the leaders of these battles and how their strategics effected the outcome of each battle. I will finish with explaining how the Revolutionary War was the gateway to the United States we have today. I feel like the length requirement on this paper is beneficial to me because it allows me to go more in-depth about these important battles and explore new explanations of each battle.
ReplyDeleteKyle, this topic is too big, as is. I would focus on a particular aspect of the Am Rev. Perhaps spying, the role of slaves, or some other specific aspect.
DeleteI would like to write my research paper on the Polio vaccine, which was first introduced to the public in 1955, how vaccines have shaped medical history in America, and the tensions that exist today surrounding them. I will discuss where and by who the vaccine was developed, and the series of events leading up to the introduction of the vaccine. I will also cover Franklin D Roosevelt's relatively secret struggle with the disease, and how the illness has been ultimately eliminated from society today. Furthermore, I will briefly outline how the vaccine works and has been used for further advancements in medical treatment. Polio was a disease that plagued many children and adults in the first half of the twentieth century and though it has been eliminated from America, continues to be a problem in foreign countries. The discussion of anti-vaccination is present in modern day, and these arguments can be traced back to when the first vaccinations, like Polio, were developed.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Grace
DeleteI would like to do my research paper on German covert operations in the United States during the First World War. Before President Wilson and the US were forced into combat in Europe, Germany undertook numerous sabotage operations in an attempt to preemptively cripple the emerging superpower. I feel that this subject is widely unknown to many people, myself included. In my paper, I'm hoping to delve into the primary motivations and activities of German spies, as well as American efforts to unmask the perpetrators of violence while remaining uninvolved in World War I.
ReplyDeleteInteresting topic. Good start.
DeleteI would like to write my research paper on the events leading up to the failed vote on the Equal Rights Amendment in the late 1970s, focusing specifically on the role of the Stop ERA campaign and Phyllis Schalfly. I plan to go into detail of the differing arguments and opinions of the time, as well as discuss factors and the climate that lead to the rise of these conservative beliefs such as the economy, social and political trends of the time. I hope to conclude my paper by tying in the the more modern day discussion of feminism and compare these two movements and their historical implications.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Olivia.
DeleteI would like to write my project on the theory that Adolf Hitler did not commit suicide in his underground bunker on April 30, 1945. Suprisingly, there is a lot of recent evidence that supports this conspiracy. Researchers have examined declassified FBI and U.S. military intelligence files, creating a compelling case about how from the beginning, U.S. investigators suspected that Hitler escaped to Argentina. Jerome Corsi's book "Hunting Hitler" and various internet articles provide information for this topic. I think that this will be an interesting topic to write about.
ReplyDeleteInteresting topic. Be careful with the sources. Make sure they are reliable and reputable.
DeleteI would like to write my research paper about certain controversial actions preformed by the CIA. I will direct my focus on CIA scandals, and become even more specific by focusing on illegal CIA drug trafficking mainly in South America. I will discuss the unconstitutional behaviors performed by this agency, as well as explain why certain things had to be done.
ReplyDeleteBen, needs more focus. I believe this will come through as you research, but be sure to narrow in on a particular event.
DeleteI would like to write my research paper on the Underground Railroad. Slavery was used for economic development in the 19th century, especially in the southern states. Slaves used the Underground Railroad as a means to escape to the Northern States for freedom. My thoughts are to write about the process in which slaves escaped, what they had to endure, consequences of being caught, and the abolitionists who helped free them. I will also include information on Harriet Tubman, who once a slave, was able to gain freedom. She was a leading conductor in the success of the railroad. Finally, I will discuss the significance and lasting impact the Underground Railroad had on society.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Alexa.
DeleteI would like to write my research paper on the Civil Rights movement that took place in the 60’s. I plan to go into detail about the various notions that led up to said movement and later discuss the different aspects that the movement entailed. To conclude my paper I will be incorporating the modern day discussion regarding racial discrimination and how it is still a prevalent issue in today’s society.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be a fuego paper, Gabby. Nice!
DeleteEn Fuego. Let me suggest narrowing in more on a particular event (race riot, a leader that is not as well known, etc.). Let me know after you dip into the research.
DeleteFor my research paper topic, I would like to focus on the subject of 21st century conservatism. I’d like to specifically focus on a few aspects of this. First, I’d like to focus on the conservative resurgence in the early 2000s, and the shift towards liberalism that occurred in the period following that. Secondly, I’d like to focus on the radicalization of some aspects of the party (i.e. Tea Party movement), as well as some of the broad mischaracterizations that emerged in response to right wing radicals and media commentary. Lastly I’d like to explore the future of the conservative movement in America by examining polling data and statistics to draw conclusions about what will happen to the Republican party in the coming years and decades.
ReplyDeleteInteresting topic, Blake. Good start.
DeleteI would like to write my research paper about the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. I will focus on the reasons why the government chose to intern only Japanese Americans as oppose to other ethnic groups and how daily life functioned in the camps. I would like to conclude my paper with an analysis of how the internment affected future generations in America. I find this topic interesting because it rarely discussed in depth.
ReplyDeleteGood topic, Christina.

ReplyDeleteI would like to write my research paper on the development of American Football at all levels; professional, collegiate, high school, etc. I plan to focus on the technological advances on equipment used by players, how it has spread and played outside of the United States, and the controversies behind the sport. I would also like to discuss the role of spectators and fans of football as well as the media’s involvement. With all of these subtopics, I will start with the history of each subtopic and explain how each has evolved over time until today. Being a football player, I am very passionate about this topic and will be able to possible add some personal anecdotes if necessary.
A lot of different directions on this. It's a good topic, just focus on one particular angle/aspect.
DeleteI would like to do my research project on the comparison between the negative reactions due to Mormonism and Scientology. I am focusing on the time periods in which each religion was criticized the most, Mormons in the 1840’s, and Scientology in about present day. My main focus will be the negative reactions spurred by these religions, especially the death of Joseph Smith (Founder of the Mormon Church), and the suicides/deaths of Scientologist members. I already know basic information on the Mormon religion, however, I don’t know as much about Scientology and will be relying on the Scientology website as well as many articles discussing the countless deaths/suicides of Scientology members. I will be spending a lot of my time comparing events caused by reactions to these religions, no doubt making it difficult for me not to be working the next 5-6 weeks.
ReplyDeleteInteresting angle. Good start.
DeleteI would like to research the United States Navy. The Navy has been a prominent military force throughout the history of the United States. Specifically, I would like to research the development of the organization, limiting the time period to 1775-1812. I plan to focus on the events leading up to the establishment of the Navy in 1775, its actions during the American Revolutionary War, and the passage of the Naval Act of 1794. I hope to conclude with a comparison between the U.S. Navy of today to the U.S. Navy of its origins.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Miranda.
DeleteI would like to write my research paper about the war on terror and US involvement in the Middle East. Specifically, I would like to focus on the 9/11 plane crashes, Al Qaeda and its leaders, the transition from Al Qaeda to ISIS, and how the US responded to these threats. I want to research how and why terrorists were able to settle in the Middle East, and the fear/guerrilla tactics that they used. Also, how the US monitored terrorist activity, how they killed Osama Bin Laden, and how ISIS emerged as a new, more extreme terrorist organization. I think it will be interesting to learn something that is occurring right now so I can relate it to my own life, yet it is still complicated enough to require lots of research that I don't already know from the news. There are plenty of sources for this information since it is current, such as government sources and news/media stories.
ReplyDeleteBIG topic, Will. You'll have to narrow it a bit more and focus on one particular aspect (e.g., transition from Al Qaeda to ISIS).
DeleteYea thats my plan. Im not going to talk about the Afghan War and other large scale global conflicts, just the transition of terrorism and how Al Qaeda became ISIS and what US has done to combat them. I know there are some Frontline Documentaries that I can use as evidence
DeleteI would like to do my research paper on the mumps, measles and rubella vaccine. I would go into the history of the disease and the usage of the vaccine in the U.S., including the controversy today with its link to autism. I would briefly talk about the usage of other vaccines and how they changed throughout history.
ReplyDeleteInteresting topic, Moira. I just saw an interview with Robert Kennedy Jr. who just wrote a book about levels of mercury in vaccines. This could be a potential source or place to gather some more ideas.
DeleteI would like to write my research paper on the United States first woman Supreme Court justice, Sandra Day O’Connor. I will elaborate on the subtle but lasting affect that O’Connor has had on the American Supreme Court and its rulings. i will explain how her life’s hardships strengthened herself as a person along with other women around the country. I will get into how O’Connor laid the foundation for the following three women appointed to the Supreme Court after O’Connor stepped down. I will gain a deeper understanding of the immense amount of power that the United States Supreme Court holds over the American people and its disputes among all. I will write a detailed paper on the history of the Supreme Court, especially Sandra Day O'Connor's affect, and the role that the judicial branch has in our countries government.
ReplyDeleteGreat start, Alyssa.
DeleteI am fascinated by the role that political parties play in the function of a democracy, from the leaders in congress who make decisions for other party members to the process of party nominations during election season. What would our democracy be like if George Washington had had his way and no groups formed along ideological lines and “parties” the way we think of them today were never born? How much power is held by the few in control of today’s powerhouse parties? (DNP, GOP, etc.) Can politicians draw strength from going against the grain of political parties’ ideological definitions and norms (for this question I have already been looking into a resource: John Fitzgerald Kennedy’s Profiles in Courage.) I wish to answer these questions, and determine whether American Political Parties are truly a detriment or a benefit to our political system (and perhaps also determine which party holds the most political power in today’s day and age.)
ReplyDeleteAndrew, another angle you might want to take is look at a country, like Italy for example, and see how a multiparty system functions. Is it more or less effective than a primarily two-party system. Just a thought.
DeleteI would like to write my research paper on the role of World War II concerning the end of the Great Depression. There is a widely accepted theory that the significant government spending during World War II rescued the depressed U.S. economy. I would like to research the validity of this theory and if it proves to be false then I want to explore the true cause for the end of the depression. I would set a majority of the paper for the theory while leaving parts for other theories or proven facts. There is also a lot of information on this period as economists wanted to ensure that they could prevent any future depressions of such horrible magnitude. I would also include some of this preventive research in my paper because, after all, an important part of history learning from past mistakes and preventing them in the future.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Bryan.
DeleteI would like to write my research paper on The Great migration, otherwise known as the Harlem Renaissance. I will discuss how it introduced African American culture to white America including the three main pieces of culture brought to urban cities: art, music, and literature. My paper will primarily talk about how this migration influenced the culture in America in later decades and established an identity for African Americans. These artists undoubtably transformed american culture and for the first time, white America couldn't look away.
ReplyDeleteGood start, George. A good book to check out on this is "The Warmth of Other Suns".
DeleteI would like to do my research paper on the legacy of Al Capone in the early twentieth century. I would discuss his rise to fame and reign in Chicago as well as his most notorious acts such as the Saint Valentine's Day Massacre. To make my paper a little more specific I will signify Capone's infamy during prohibition as my major topic. Another topic I will cover is Capone's public image, and how many people looked up to him as a symbol for anti-prohibition. I would conclude my paper my signifying the life of Capone and his contribution to American mobs today. Tom Brady is innocent. Tedd Wells is a liar. Goodell should be fired.
ReplyDeleteSpencer, good start. Also, Pats had a nice run the past 15 years, but the BILLS ARE BACK, BABY!
DeleteI would like to write my research paper on the greatest amphibious invasion during World War II known as Operation Neptune, which was a component of the overall Operation Overlord or D-Day. I would begin by discussing events that led up to the invasion such as military deception, Operation Bodyguard, which was used to mislead the German's as to certain information of the main landings. I would then move into the planning and the assault itself and describe the outcome and losses from both sides of the operation. I would use sources such as personal journal entries from soldiers and officers that took part in the Assault from the U.S. side, parts of books that focus on this certain event, and movies such as the great Saving Private Ryan (1998) which brilliantly highlights the gruesome invasion. I believe this is the most important event in the early stages of World War II, and thanks to its success, the Allies would push through German occupied Western Europe and eventually reach Germany.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Nate.
DeleteI am going to talk about if the cold war is coming back. I will first start in 1991, how the diplomatic relations between the US and Russia were. How Vladimir Putin came to power and what his relation was with George W. Bush. Then I will evaluate what is he focusing in the world market. This is going to be energy. From oil to electricity, I will discuss how Putin puts it in his agenda and how he makes profit through the world markets. With price of oil dropping we see that this had a major influence on Putin's energy policy. I will then discuss Ukraine and the military actions that Putin has made on Crimea, and what Barack Obama has by imposing sanctions on Russia. After discussing what has happened with modern Russia these past 20 years, I will predict what will happen in the future with Russia.
ReplyDeleteInteresting topic, Greg.
DeleteI am going to write my research paper on the Edison vs. Tesla, AC vs DC. I will first talk about both of the scientists background, such as college and work before their rivalry. After that the two sides of the battle including their inventions and their backings and goals and the physics behind it all. Also discussing the possible outcomes if the battle went the other way and how widespread the result of this was.
ReplyDeleteGood start, Nate.
DeleteI will be focused on Hurricane Katrina. My paper will involve a focus on the short term effects and the long term effects. I will also talk about the type of natural disaster and how it destroyed aspects of New Orleans. It will also involve a focus on how the rebuilding occurred and what has changed about New Orleans after.i will talk about how the situation was handled on the local and national level and what worked versus what did not work. I will also compare it to past disasters and perhaps how to improve for the future.
ReplyDeleteNICE! I'm sure we will be blown away by your work.
DeleteGood, Lilly. I think your last sentence might be a bit too ambitious for the scope of this paper. We will see when you get into the research. Has there ever been a Hurricane Lena? That would be interesting research.
DeleteI would like to do my research paper on the Civil Rights Movement. Specifically I would like to focus on the effect of influential singers and musicians on the movement. My paper will focus on many people, such as Nina Simone and Billie Holliday.
ReplyDeleteInteresting topic, Daniella. Don't forget Pete Seeger in this mix.
DeleteI am going to do my research paper on the history of flight in America. I plan to research the origins of flight and how it changed transportation forever. Our culture has been majorly impacted by the invention and development of the airplane and will continue to be impacted with the ever changing flight industry.
ReplyDeleteBIG topic, Lena. David McCullough just came out with a book on the Wright Brothers. Perhaps you can start there and get some ideas? Be sure to narrow this down.
DeleteI would like to write my paper on women's reproductive rights in America, more specifically the availability of birth control and abortions from the mid 1900's to present day. In addition to the legality/access to these things, I would like to talk about the public's stance in this debate and how it has changed/stayed the same over time.
ReplyDeletePerry, good start. There is a recent book about Margaret Sanger and her work that you might find interesting, although it is at the beginning of the 20th century.
DeleteI would like to do my research paper on the history of news scandals of the United States. I will highlight and give detail on the most prominent news scandals in U.S. history, and also how those scandals affected the public. In light of recent events (Brian Williams, George Stephanopoulos), I feel as though this is a very relevant topic, and one that is imperative in order to have a comprehensive understanding of our history as a nation.
ReplyDeleteMike, big topic. I would try to focus on a prominent one. Figure out what this will be as you gather sources and you'll be in good shape.
DeleteHi Mr. Ritchie,
ReplyDeleteI am posting this for Ana because her computer broke.
Thank you,
Gabby G.
For my research paper I would like to talk about how African American blues music became assimilated into American mainstream only after British musicians incorporated it into their music and brought it back during the British Invasion. I would like to focus on the influences of many popular British artists like the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, the Who, etc. I'll explain how this changed the direction of music and enriched the rock and roll culture in the United States.
Interesting topic, Ana. Good start.
DeleteFor my research paper I would like to research and write about the indirect conflicts between the United Sates and the Soviet Union focusing mostly on the use of spying. This has always been a topic that I've been very interred in and I have always seen factionalized stories of spy agencies during the time period but I would like to learn the truth behind it. I feel that should easily be able to find enough information for the paper
ReplyDeleteLiam, this needs more focus. Try to narrow in on a particular person, place, or event and you'll be in good shape.
DeleteI'd like to write my research paper of Matthew Perry (not the actor). More specifically the U.S. Commodore and more generally about U.S.-Japanese relations. I'm interested in the period between 1852, with the opening of Japan by Perry, and 1941, with the escalation to WWII. This topic is mostly political, discussing the influence of the U.S. on a modernizing Japan and the ensuing expansion of both nations into he Pacific. This period includes the acquisition of a land in the area by both the Unites States and the Empire of Japan, territorial expansions that inevitably brought the two nations into conflict. My thesis will likely be centered on the growth of Japan and the U.S.'s role in this modernization, and the paper will not go into depth on the Second World War (that'd be a lot).
ReplyDeleteGood start, Aubrey.
